I’m excited to post this charming interview with Katharine Whalen and Chris Phillips of Squirrel Nut Zippers. It was recorded in 2008, but it has been sitting patiently on a MiniDV tape until 2020. It’s nothing against the band!… they could not have been nicer and our whole family was a fan of the band. This interview was an unfortunate victim of taking a break from Cooking with Rockstars that was intended to last a few months but ended up lasting 12 years. 

Katharine parted ways with the band after this 2008 reunion tour (she had parted ways with her ex-husband, band-leader Jimbo Mathes before that). She released two albums with her band Katharine Whalen’s Jazz Squad, and she is still making music and performing, including some Covid-era streaming shows in 2020. The Squirrel Nut Zippers released an album in 2018 with Chris on percussion, and they appear to be touring in late 2020. They are super nice people!
